With the largest network of doctors and clinics, D4Drivers is the first-choice medical provider for Group 2 drivers in the UK, examining over 10,000 drivers per month across 100 clinics nationwide. I-Tel Group was approached to address a specific challenge related to the mandatory Snellen eye tests for HGV drivers, aiming to eliminate the potential for candidates to memorise letter sequences.
The existing Snellen eye test boards used by D4Drivers had a static letter configuration, which allowed drivers to memorise the sequence, undermining the test’s accuracy and reliability. This presented a significant issue as accurate vision testing is crucial for ensuring road safety. D4Drivers needed a solution that maintained the integrity of the vision tests while being cost-effective and easy to implement across their extensive network of clinics.

Our solution

I-Tel Group’s design team quickly identified an alternative approach by developing a Snellen chart with a varied letter sequence. We collaborated closely with our supply chain partners to manufacture a double-sided Snellen Chart that adhered to the exact specifications of the original. The new chart design included two different letter sequences, allowing examiners to alternate between them to prevent memorisation.
